week of welcome - September 16th - 20th, 2024
Week of Welcome (WOW) activities focus on economic, social, cultural and political integration of Newcomers in Simcoe County by liaising with the local municipal partners, settlement service provider organizations, ethno-cultural groups and vendors. In addition to job finding, social connections, and community resources, WOW events include an opportunity to participate and learn about Indigenous learning and history in Canada. A Citizenship Ceremony caps off the week by celebrating our newest Canadians. WOW is administered through the Local Immigration Partnership with ethno-cultural outreach support provided by EMA.

The narrative is non-linear, interweaving past and present as Ru reflects on her traumatic experiences in Vietnam, the harrowing journey to safety, and the challenges of adapting to a new culture in Canada. The film delves deeply into themes of identity, displacement, and resilience, offering a lyrical and emotional portrayal of the immigrant experience.
Regional Social Service Fair

Join us on Monday September 16th from 3 pm to 8 pm at the Southshore Community Centre (205 Lakeshore Dr. Barrie) for the Regional Social Service Fair. All happening during our Week of Welcome, a vibrant event that celebrates the rich diversity of Simcoe County.
This exciting day will feature multicultural performances, delicious food from local ethnic vendors, and a variety of activities for kids. Explore booths from local social services and connect with community resources, all while enjoying music, dancing, and the colorful atmosphere. It's a perfect opportunity to experience the cultural mosaic that makes our community unique and welcoming.
